Lesson Twenty Eight: Is Technology Bad?
Screen Time shows us just how addicted we are to our tech.
This is Lesson Twenty Eight of the Simple & Calm course. Today’s lesson is a close look at how much time we’re spending on our devices, and whether or not we’re happy with that. This course is for paid subscribers only, but if you’d like to enrol and get immediate access to this lesson, and all previous lessons, then you can upgrade your subscription by clicking the button below. I’d love to help you live a simpler and calmer life.
We are currently working through Module 6: Technology & Social Media. To catch up on the course so far, here’s the link to the first 5 modules:
Is Technology Bad?
Technology is only as bad as the person using it. Twitter on its own isn’t bad, or harmful. The people who use Twitter in a bad way, are. Are phones bad? Well, they enable us to communicate with loved ones or friends, sometimes thousands of miles apart. They’re there to help us communicate when we’re in danger or we need help. But, they’re also addictive. You only have to look at your screen time to see how addictive they are. I don’t go anywhere without my phone. I may not even use it, but I just like the security of having it with me, just in case. It’s a ridiculous addiction.
The upshot is, we get to decide if we use our technology for good or bad. We get to decide if we spend hours scrolling social media, or hours reading wonderful posts on Substack. We get to decide if we spend hours socialising with friends and relatives via FaceTime and Messages, or if we’d prefer to talk to our online communities. We get to decide if we use our exercise app daily, or if we are spending too much time (and money) ordering fast food to be delivered.
