Technology is a huge part of my life, and I’m sure the same could be said about you, too. I love technology. I’ve always been intrigued by computers and how they work, and I did very well in I.T. at high school. There’s never a day that goes by that I don’t use technology in some way. My computer, my laptop, my phone, trying to add V-BUCKS to my children’s xbox account (😅), even the TV is more technical than it used to be.
I’m pretty good with technology. I know my way around software and hardware, and I’ve built a business using technology to help other creatives improve their businesses, and their lives. One piece of technology I just cannot get on board with though, is a Kindle. I’m sorry. I know you’re probably reading this with a confused expression on your face, but I got one for my 30th birthday in July and I hated it and sent it back. It was like operating an old PC with Windows ‘98. It was so slow it made me feel sick, so after approximately an hour and a half trying to force myself to love it, I boxed it back up and returned it. I still love reading on devices, but now I use my Books app on my iPhone. It’s just so much better.
Technology is wonderful. It helps me connect with loved ones, I take pictures of my children and share them within the family Whatsapp group, it allows me to work, remotely from home (the biggest gift technology has ever given me!). But, technology can also be harmful. I know this because my children are usually beautiful little souls, but if they spend any prolonged period of time on a device, they morph into gremlins with terrible attitudes and foggy brains.
I understand it though, it’s because of the overstimulation that they get from it. I get it too, sometimes. I know when I need to shut the laptop and switch off for the day. I know when I need to sit in silence and rest because my brain has been far too active, for far too long.
One of the biggest platforms that technology gives us, is access to social media. Now, don’t get me wrong, social media can be wonderful, and I’m not saying that you should stay away from it or you’ll be cursed forever. No, I know social media can be good, just like technology can, but you have to use it in moderation.
