Welcome to Overcoming Overwhelm
A space to learn how to reduce the overwhelm in your creative business!
Hi, I’m Sophie, wife, mum of 3, former nurse turned creative business owner, turned virtual assistant to creative business owners. My job now is to help overwhelmed creatives to reduce their to-do list. I take the tasks that they either don’t have time to do, or that they don’t enjoy doing, and I do it for them. The only issue is, I’m one person, and I don’t have enough hours to help everyone on a 1:1 level. That’s why I’ve turned to Substack to reach as many creatives as possible in one go - teaching you how to do specific business related tasks, increase your productivity, and reduce your overwhelm in your business. I’d love it if you could join me!
Welcome creative business owner, how are you?
Probably busy, right? Got a million and one things on your ever growing to-do list, and feeling like there aren’t enough hours in the day?
I get it. No, really, I do.
When I started my own creative business, all I wanted to do (and expected to do) was sell my products. No one told me about aaaallll the other things I had to do as a business owner, too!
The admin, the content creation for social media, sending emails, updating my Etsy shop, make sure my SEO was perfect, build a website, manage a Facebook group, have I uploaded to Stories today?, ah I’m low on stock, keep track of accounts! All important tasks, but when does that allow me to create the product and ship it to my customer?
Being a business owner is FULL ON. But, we love our craft, we’re passionate about it and we’re ruddy brilliant at it.
I’m passionate about creative businesses. I’m also passionate about slowing down and making things simpler.
Not too long ago, I was deep, deep in an overwhelmed, burnt out season in my business. I couldn’t carry on like that, I knew it in my heart, but also, I needed to earn some money, so I couldn’t stop either.
It took nearly losing everything, including my sanity, before I’d hit the end of the road and couldn’t carry on any further. Drastic change needed to happen, and that’s exactly what I did.
I sat and worked out how many hours I could actually, realistically work each day. I stripped everything back in my business, let go of 80% of my clients (and income), scraped by financially, got my sanity back, started working with a coach, got serious about my capacity, and started again.
Now I’m here to tell other busy, overwhelmed business owners how you can simplify and streamline your tasks and workload, so you don’t end up like past me.

Like I said earlier, I’m passionate about creative businesses. I want to help as many of you as possible to reduce your overwhelm. I wish I had more time to dedicate to working in your businesses personally, but I don’t. So this is the next best thing.
I’m going to write about small, bite-sized business tasks, productivity tools, apps, software, and recommendations that will help you in your business.
They’ll mostly be small posts with 1 or 2 actionable points. I know your time is precious, and I don’t want to take up any more of it by adding to your to-do list.
We’ll cover things like:
Creating and scheduling social media posts
How to organise the daily running of your business so you always know what you’re doing, and no day is wasted.
How to send emails, why you should and what you can write about
What to include in your Instagram bio
Are hashtags still a thing?
What are the different types of Pinterest pins, and which should you create?
Which apps are the best for photo editing?
Do you need Canva Pro?
It’d be great if you could tell me what areas of your business are causing you the most stress or overwhelm, that way I can create posts that I know will help you directly.
Paid subscribers get access to my courses and teaching sessions about different areas of business. I’ve created an in-depth course all about how to grow and earn an income through Pinterest, and a course about branding and design in your Substack publication.
Gosh, I’m so excited to get started! Please join me in the comments and let me know what you do and what is causing you the most overwhelm in your business right now.
I have lots of ideas, but it’d be really great and super helpful to know first hand what you’d like me to talk about or teach.
Thank you so much for being here with me. I can’t wait to help you, and bring some calm back to your work.
