Business tasks to complete when you're short on time.
Hi, I’m Sophie, an introverted coffee loving creative. Welcome to Finding Simple & Calm, a place where I share the harsh realities of motherhood and being neurodivergent in my pursuit of a simple life in an overwhelming world. I’m also passionate about creative businesses, and I love writing about, and teaching, methods on how to simplify and organise your business, reduce the overwhelm, and spend more time being creative.
I hope you can join me?
This post is part of my ‘Free Business Tips’ series, where I share a quick and simple business tip, tool, or piece of advice. I hope you find it useful, enjoy!
Of course, there are lots of things you could do to improve your business - updating your website for one - but what about when you don’t have the time to do something so big? Is there a way to improve your business by doing something small and meaningful instead?
The answer is yes!
Here are 5 things that you can do to improve your business, that take less than 5 minutes.
Reach out to a client/ customer and ask for a review or testimonial.
You can then use it on your website, or create a post for social media.Create a new folder in your email for emails that need your attention.
I have a folder that I’ve named ‘To reply/do’. I know it’s not the best of titles, but when I’m in a rush and don’t have time to reply to emails, I just drag and drop them into the folder for me to reply to when I next have chance. A lot of emails don’t need a reply, or I could do with unsubscribing from them, so perhaps creating another folder for that sort of action would be helpful too?Reply to Substack/ Instagram/ Facebook DMs.
DMs (and comments!) can pile up. Set a 5 minute timer and reply to as many as you can. Make note of any important DMs, or ask them to email you so that you don’t lose the message.Update a social media bio (Instagram/ Substack/ Pinterest) to make sure it’s relevant and not outdated.
Does your bio clearly state what it is that you do and who it is that you serve? If not, spend 5 minutes making sure it does. If you still have information that is out of date, then remove it and add in anything that your customers/ clients need to know about you/ your work.Spend 5 minutes doing a brain dump of everything that you need to do this week (or day!), or of things that are on your mind, or of any ideas that you have for new services/ products.
Don’t action them, just write them all down so that you can come back to it later. I find it helpful to get things out of my head and onto a piece of paper. I separate mine into ‘work’ and ‘personal’, but you can organise it however you like.
There you have it. 5 things you can do to improve your business. Let me know if you try any, or if you have your own tasks that you do when you’re short on time.

Brain dumping is my number 1 business strategy as a high-sensitive adhd mama! It saves my life on a daily basis.
This isna great little list. #4 - I'd rather spend 5 minutes deleting social media 😁😁 Kidding. I'm not even on social media.
#5 is something I've been doing for a couple if weeks now. I'm revamping offerings for 2025 so I'm currently brain dumping those ideas on a Google doc.
