I think we’re taught early that if you’re not DOING something you’re wasting time. But as children we learned through play and exploration and wonder without the need for any result. We need to recover that so we can be the best version of our creative selves.
I loved reading this, thanks Sophie for sharing and Alicia for such amazing words and advice.
How amazing Alicia, that your slow and perfect 24 hours is exactly what you are doing right now. And I resonate completely with your sentiment around everything being impermanent. Live for the good times now knowing that they won't last forever and remember that in your hardest times, they will pass.
Alicia set the bar high for those of us queuing up to be part of the interview series (I'm working on my submission, Sophie)!
This was fantastic to read for a few particular reasons...my husband and I are planning to come to Portugal for the first time. We are in the early planning stages and want to get information from knowledgeable people because we have never been there. Then I am guided for this to be my first read of the day. Coincidence? I think not! Here is a fellow kindred coffee lover who goes for daily walks right there in Portugal talking directly to me:)
Also, thank you for the reminder to read Bittersweet. I have been planning to do so but it must have fallen off the radar so I appreciate the prompt.
What I love the most about hearing your story Alicia, is the variety you have had in your life and the effort you have made to make it intentional. I thought this was 'normal' (I know there is no such thing as normal) but I've come to realize that few folks live with that level of creating the life they want. Sometimes creating a life of our choosing requires tremendous effort which may appear to be the opposite of a simple life. However, in doing the work we arrive at the place where we can have a slower pace. I think the key is to be intentional throughout the whole process.
Donna, no coincidences only synchronicity! I love Portugal 🇵🇹. I’m in the Algarve. Happy to share places to visit or ideas for your visit. And yes, my life is intentional. One of my previous posts speaks to that intentionality. It’s called Life By Design. https://open.substack.com/pub/aliciamrodriguez/p/life-by-design
I loved this too! I’m often guilty of trying to cram, cram, cram but quiet time is more productive 🤍
I’m so pleased you enjoyed the first episode of the interview series, episode 2 is next Sunday at the same time 🥰

It’s so true. I often have to remind myself that I only get ideas when I’m ‘doing nothing’!
Yay to week one and what a fabulous start! 🥳

I also love great coffee!

I look forward to checking it out.
How wonderful, Donna! I'm so pleased that this post was able to connect you both 🥰
Wonderful start to your series Sophie! 🥳
I agree with Alicia when she said that one thing that makes life instantly better is a cup of rich coffee and music 🎶 I love a good cup of coffee!
I’m Colombian 🇨🇴 so good coffee ☕️ and music 🎶 to sway to are important!
Ah, I'm so glad you enjoyed it, Mackenzie! Coffee and music can turn a rather terrible day into a brilliant one! ☕️
What a beautiful, well lived life 😍😍😍
Always a work in progress!
