Pinterest for Business and Substack Growth: A free video tutorial
Can you successfully grow your business without using social media?
Hello! In case you’re wondering why on earth you’re receiving this email today, check out this post which explains everything.
I’ve read lots of posts here on Substack recently from writers who are venturing further away from social media, and I’ve done the same. I’ve taken the majority of 2023 away from social media, removing the apps from my phone, but keeping my accounts active.
The benefits have been incredible. My mental health has improved and my brain fog has lifted massively. I suppose my brain is having a rest from the constant attention grabbing that scrolling on social media demands, and I’m here for it.
Now, I’m not saying that social media is ‘bad’, and that you should stay away from it at all costs. Social media can be a very useful tool, especially for creatives and businesses to advertise and grow their businesses online.
But the question on many creative’s lips remains, ‘how do I grow my business if I don’t want to use social media?’. Well, how about Pinterest?
Whenever I talk about, or recommend Pinterest, I’m often met with the same few responses. Many people don’t really understand how Pinterest works, let alone how to create a Pin, optimise it for SEO, and eventually grow their business.
Pinterest is often overlooked as a growth tool, but it could prove to be very fruitful if used to its full potential. As a Virtual Assistant, I have helped many businesses to grow on Pinterest. I wouldn’t say that I’m an expert, but I have learnt a few tricks over the years.
Recently, I’ve worked with
on her Pinterest account. Claire had used Pinterest for years, but wanted to really focus on utilising it to grow her business, and Substack audience further. This is what Claire’s Substack looked like before we started work:
We then set to work to create boards and pins relevant to the target client that Claire wanted to attract. I created a few templates to demonstrate the different types of pins, and I optimised pins and boards for SEO. The changes I made were simple and easy for Claire to replicate going forwards.
Here’s what Claire’s Pinterest looks like now, less than 30 days after working together:
Claire’s results have been fantastic in such a short period of time, and it got us thinking that we should share this with other creatives who also want to grow their businesses, without using social media. And so, Claire and I are coming together next week to pre-record a teaching session all about Pinterest, and how you can use it to not only grow your business, but also your audience on Substack. The session will be available to watch mid September for paid subscribers. We’d love for you to join us, and if you’re not a paid subscriber just yet, you can upgrade your membership below:
We’ll be covering:
What Pinterest is
How to use Pinterest
The different types of pins
How to create pins and boards
How to optimise those pins and boards with SEO to attract the right audience.
And finally, how to automate the entire process so you don’t have to spend a long time growing your business
We’d like to invite you to ask questions here in the comments section of this post for us to answer during the teaching session. We’d like to gather as many questions as possible before we record next week, so that we can make sure we’ve covered everything, and you get the most out of the session.
I’m also working on a free PDF checklist for you to reference whenever you need to create a pin, board, or write a title or description.
If this sounds like something you’d like to know more about, then we’d love to welcome you to our session. Please leave your questions in the comments section below.
Until next time,

Love this! Brilliant offering, thank you Sarah and Claire!
I must admit I have only used Pinterest this year for some interior ideas and nothing else, ever.
My curiosity was sparked when I learned in here from a few people that they have such success with it.
Can’t wait for your offering, as I have never been very active on other social media platforms either due to overstimulation but have the feeling Pinterest might be more calm on my nervous system.
I've started to experiment with it, but don't really have any idea what I'm doing so looking forward to this session.
